Help with Moving Up
Moving up from primary to secondary school is an exciting and significant event in a child’s life. It is an important milestone which, for many parents and teachers, marks a change in expectations regarding crucial life-skills such as self-organisation and independent working.
Here at Parkside Academy, we understand that this is a challenging time and do our best to support pupils and their parents through the transition process:
- Your child’s new Year Leader will visit their primary school and spend time getting to know your child; this may take the form of a meeting with the Year 6 teacher, a transition session for the pupils and/or small group sessions.
- Pupils will visit Parkside with the rest of their class from Primary school on Move Up Day. Move Up Day gives pupils the opportunity to get to know our school buildings and meet some of the key staff in school. Perhaps most importantly of all, your child will meet their form tutor and the rest of their tutor group.
- Currently, we host a Move Up Evening for parents to help ease the transition into Year 7. This event is designed to offer reassurance and insight into key areas such as: ‘Getting to know your school’, ‘Supporting your child’s learning at Parkside’ and ‘Being Safe at Parkside’. Throughout the evening, parents have the opportunity to meet other families in a relaxed and informal setting, meet key members of staff face-to-face, familiarise themselves with the school environment and learn about the support available for both themselves and their children.
If you have any questions or queries about the transition process, please do get in touch.
