RSHE

As a part of your child’s education at Parkside Academy, we promote personal wellbeing and development through a comprehensive Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education programme, that includes the new statutory requirements for Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) and Health Education. PSHE education is the curriculum subject that gives young people the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live safe, healthy and productive lives, allowing them to meet their full potential and giving them the information to form healthy relationships and make informed decisions.
Government guidelines outline that the Health Education, Relationships and Sex Education (RSHE) aspects of PSHE education is now compulsory in all secondary schools from September 2020. In light of these statutory requirements for RSE and Health Education, we have updated the PSHE curriculum, RSHE policy and consulted with staff, students and parents/carers. We have worked hard to make sure that our new curriculum reflects:
- Our pupils’ age and maturity levels, as well as their cultural and religious backgrounds;
- The values of our school community;
- Every pupil’s learning needs;
- What pupils need to know to be healthy and safe in school, in their personal relationships and in the wider world.
The details as to what will be taught to various year groups is outlined in the Academy’s RSE Policy, which can be accessed here.
RSHE Annex of parental consultation for Parkside Academy can be found here.
There is also a PSHE Overview and a Curriculum Plan here, where you will find a breakdown of topics covered in each year group. All lesson resources are available on the students Firefly account.
