Master Classes

This year at Parkside, we have extended opportunities for our Gifted and Talented pupils by offering a series of subject based ‘Master classes’, in association with the University of Durham.

‘Master classes’ are aimed at pupils who have a keen interest in or show particular skill at chosen subjects and take place outside of lesson time, often at the University or related sites.

Topics for KS4 pupils so far have included;

  • Creative Writing
  • Astronomy
  • Analyze this!! Psychoanalysis and Freud
  • The Psychology of Celebrity and Fandom
  • How to conduct an enquiry
  • Confidence building and interview techniques.
  • Using research data

Our KS3 pupils are invited to attend STEM sessions (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) which take place every Thursday.  This year in STEM club, pupils have completed challenging activities and participated in (and won 2 out of 3 categories) the Engineering Challenge to design and build a remote controlled car. They have also made chocolates, learnt about dinosaurs and built motorised trains amongst many other fun and exciting activities.
