The curriculum at Parkside Academy is designed in line with the key whole school principle, ‘Your Child is Our Child’.
All students follow accredited DfE approved GCSE/Technical qualifications to ensure they have the currency required to access FE/HE education and the world of work post 16.
The curriculum followed at both KS3 and KS4 is broad and balanced, with bespoke opportunities built into PSHE and SMSC across all year groups.
Years 7 and 8
Pathways in KS3 allow targeted invention through Connect Intervention, with all pupils accessing Core, EBacc and Foundation subjects. There is an emphasis on wellbeing, through PE, enrichment, rewards and a dedicated PSHE programme with Student Leadership as a core foundation.
All pupils study English, Mathematics, Science, Geography, History, ICT, Religious Education, Physical Education, Art, Technology, Performing Arts and a Modern Foreign Language, in line with the National Curriculum.
Pupils are set bands based on their English skills and, separately, on their Mathematical skills.
Personal, Social, Health and Economic education is delivered both across the curriculum and through our innovative Inspire Days where our pupils interact with and learn from a wide range of organisations, charities and businesses.
Years 9, 10 and 11
The school has a well established a three-year KS4 curriculum, allowing students the choice to maintain breadth whilst accessing Languages, Technology and the Arts. Students receive a guided choice to ensure provision meets the needs of all. Wellbeing is core to the provision, being both timetabled and bespoke to individuals.
All pupils study common core subjects. These include, English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, Combined Science, ICT Creative iMedia, Physical Education, and Religious Education.
Pupils will then be able to choose from the list of subjects below. The number of choices they are able to make and the range of subjects they can choose from will vary from Pathway to Pathway.
