Three Parkside Academy students embarked on a prestigious and engaging Life as a Lawyer event at Eversheds Sutherland LLP on Wednesday 27th March. The students discovered the different routes into the legal profession, undertook negotiation exercises, participated in a mock trial using case related evidence, listened to a presentation by established Barrister, Amy Rumble at Parklane Plowden Chambers and had the opportunity to network with some of the leading legal professionals.
“I absolutely loved today especially the practical aspect of researching evidence to support your case and argue your point. I learned about the professional route into becoming a Barrister too – being self-employed and highly motivated”. Yr11 Neeve Ridley
“Today was super interesting, recognising and appreciating two completely different viewpoints of the defence and prosecution when presented with the same facts. It was this form of debating I found exciting and fun.” Yr11 Julianna Urbanowicz
“The negotiation exercise surprised me in a good way. I think I learned one of the fundamental rules of being a solicitor – always ensure you reach an amicable agreement which the client is happy with, regardless of how long negotiation takes.” Yr11 Jodie Blackett
The students thoroughly enjoyed the event and all stated it reinforced their decision to pursue a legal career in higher education. A huge thank you to Andrew Cooper and Jack Fraser at Eversheds Sutherland LLP for organising the event.
