At Parkside Academy, we try to give our pupils as many opportunities as we can and that includes opportunities for our Gifted and Talented pupils.
Our KS3 pupils are invited to attend STEM sessions which take place every Thursday. (STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths). This year in STEM club, pupils have completed challenging activities and taken part in the Engineering Challenge to design and build a remote controlled car where they won two out of the three categories! They have also made chocolates, learnt about dinosaurs, taken part in a ‘crime scene’ reconstruction with a forensics expert and built motorised trains – amongst many other fun and exciting activities.
We also offer a series of subject-based ‘Masterclasses’ in association with the University of Durham. These classes are aimed at pupils in Key Stage 4 who have a particular skill at or keen interest in chosen subjects.
The Key Stage 4 programme this year has included;
- Creative Writing
- Confidence building and interview techniques.
Parkside Academy is one of only a handful of secondary schools in the North East to hold the prestigious “Challenge Award” recognising our excellent provision for high ability children.
